Script for opening interview scene

This scene will begin as if a video tape is being played, the scene will look fuzzy as if its a TV that has lost signal, e.g.
We will try and achieve this effect, and then the scene will begin.

As stated in previous posts our script will be very minimal because it suits the mysterious theme. Kate and Sarah will seem to be having a conversation together when in actually fact they are being interviewed by a therapist.

Kate : (Laughing)
Sarah: They deserved it
Kate: Plus it was fun.
Sarah: They weren't people, we made them better. (Smiles)
Kate: They needed to perish.
Sarah: (Laughing)
Sarah: (Laughing)

The characters laughter will coincide with each other and become one continuous group of laughter, the laughter will carry on through to the opening title sequence accompanied by creepy music. The laughter will add a chilling atmosphere, and the creepy music will reinforce this atmosphere. After the production companies the films title will appear against a black background and then found into the opening scene.

Shooting script changes

When looking at our cameras we discovered that we wouldn't be able to take high quality shots at night so we changed the shooting script to shoot in the day time near dusk. As well as changing the time of shooting from night to day we also decided that it would be best to shoot from a point where the camera was already hidden when the victim and Sarah arrived, this was because when practicing our shots the opening of looking through the window looked messy and low quality.

Casting and Location

Casting
There are three main characters to our film opening, the two killers Kate and Sarah and the victim.

  • Sarah: Francesca Harris
  • Kate: Natalie Jennings
  • Victim: Max Winhall
Although there are only three characters in the film, in the setting of the house we would like bodies to be scattered, previous people Kate and Sarah have killed.
Possible previous victims
  • Jodie Nicholls
  • Jennifer Love
Location
The hospital scene will be set in the nurses office at my groups school, North East Wolverhampton Academy, Northwood campus. We have chosen this location because this is the only feasible way of shooting a scene that is set in a hospital, as doing the scene in a real hospital would be impossible. We have also chosen this location because looking at the nurses office it gives the impression of a hospital bedroom, it has a bed, a en suite bathroom, the walls are white, the lighting is bright, the walls have shelves that have surgical gloves, hand sanitiser, paper towels, and locked cupboards. This room will reinforce the authenticity of the hospital setting and will look realistic.

The second scene will be shot at my house, but for no particular reason.

Props for two minute film opening

Fake Blood
I want to make home made fake blood, as this is not only cost effective but also means we can make continuous amounts for when we need more while filming, we also have a better chance of creating a mixture that will not stain. We would also like to make the blood edible, non-toxic, this will allow us to be creative with the blood while filming without being conscious of getting the blood near our mouths.

I found this fake blood tutorial from on youtube from another media student two years previous.
This recipe is perfect for what me and my group were looking for.

Hospital patient outfits
As our film opens with two interviews with the killers of the film in a mental health facilities, we need to acquire hospital patient gowns. Buying this costume is will effective in our film because it will add authenticity to the opening scene.

For rest of the film the two killer character will just wear normal, comfortable clothes such as jeans and t-shirts. The average clothing will show to the audience that any seemingly ordinary looking person can be dangerous.

Shooting script

Shot one
Lighting will be dark nothing to be seen, all to be heard is breathing. The sound of the door makes Sarah pick the camera up and position it to look through the window and see Kate and the victim.

Shot two
Sarah moves away from the curtain and hides the camera in the hallway. Close up shot of Sarah’s face.

Shot three
The camera see’s Sarah open the door to Kate and the victim who are standing on the doorstep.  High shot.

Shot four
Sarah makes way for the victim as Kate quickly grabs a weapon and hits the victim on the head. High shot.

Shot five

Victim falls into Sarah who then stumbles over and Kate shuts the door. High shot.

Shot six
Sarah falls into the camera after catching the victim. Camera cuts out.

Opening Title Plans

Title of film -  Obscure

Production companies
Here are some examples of possible titles for our film opening

- Freaky Clip Production

Ambiguity

Before we decided our opening title sequence, I researched into some horror film openings to give me some ideas of how we can incorporate our production companies and titles into the two minute film opening.

This is a really good example of incorporating titles into a film opening with the use of, effects and background music.

I really like the effects on the typography in this opening, the effect on the title 'The Lake' I especially like and the effects on the typography of the actors names, very scratchy and jumpy, it gives a great effect of a broken video, which would be a perfect effect for our film opening.
